  BOLIVAR, Mo. (BP) -- Accusations that a pastor did not cooperate with police during a 2005 sex abuse case are bringing into question his appointment as a trustee at a Baptist university supported by the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC).

  CAMDENTON, Mo. (BP) -- The Windermere Baptist Conference Center (WBCC) may have a new lease on life after being bought off the steps of the Camden County (Mo.) Courthouse Dec. 11, 2019, following the campground's "non-judicial foreclosure."

  Straightway Holdings, Inc. (SHI), a subsidiary of the Missouri Baptist Foundation (MBF), put in the highest bid, gaining ownership of Windermere for $4.745 million. The property was purchased with a loan from WatersEdge Ministry Services, the Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma's provider of church loan and investment services. Read More

  BRANSON, Mo. (BP) -- Missouri Baptists celebrated restoration and renewed cooperation to transform lives with the Gospel at their annual meeting Oct. 28-29 at the Branson Convention Center in Branson, Mo.

  BOLIVAR, Mo. (BP) -- Southwest Baptist University's (SBU) Statement of Faith has not been implemented effectively across the fabric of the university, according to an external peer assessment committee that completed its work there in June.

  The committee, which was commissioned by SBU late last year, was led by David Dockery, chancellor of Trinity International University.   JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (BP) -- The Missouri Baptist Convention's first African American officer, Jon Nelson, is not only a husband, father and church planter. He's also a testimony to the grace of God that can take an adversary of faith, such as Nelson once was, and bring him into the service of the one he had hated.

  Growing up in his parents' inner-city church in Kansas City, Nelson admits he often intellectually wrestled with Christians there.

  "When I attended my parents' church, I would privately engage in debates to destroy others' faith by asking venomous and loaded questions," Nelson remembers of his effort to agitate doubt that anyone had about God, the Christian faith or the Bible. Having become a self-defined -- but not publicly identified -- atheist, he wanted others to taste and see the same freedom he felt by rejecting belief in any God. Read More

• Mo. Baptist resolution: Denounce Dred Scott decision

  SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (BP) -- Missouri Baptists elected a more ethnically diverse slate of convention officers and approved a resolution encouraging racial reconciliation during their 184th annual meeting at Crossway Baptist Church in Springfield.

  Although this year's meeting was shortened to only two days, Oct. 22-23, attendance rose slightly compared to the previous two years, totaling 1,042 messengers and 184 visitors from 451 churches.

  Jon Nelson, elected as MBC first vice president, is believed to be the convention's first black officer. Nelson is an MBC church planter and pastor of Soma Community Church near the campus of historically black Lincoln University in Jefferson City. Read More

• Missouri DR deploys after 17 killed at Branson lake

  BRANSON, Mo. –(BP) -- Seventeen people, including children, died yesterday (July 19) after a sudden violent storm capsized a "duck boat" on Table Rock Lake near the tourist hotspot of Branson, Mo. The tragedy prompted a response from Missouri Disaster Relief (DR) today, as well as from other Southern Baptists in the region.

  Branson is known among tourists for its "duck boats," which can travel both on land and in the water. Two boats were still in the water yesterday at Table Rock Lake, when a fast-moving storm brought winds in excess of 60 mph and caused three-foot waves on the lake.

  One of the boats was able to make it back to shore but another -- carrying 31 passengers -- struggled amid the waves and was finally capsized. Read More

  RAYTOWN, Mo. (BP) -- Missouri Baptists pursued greater synergy for transforming lives and communities with the Gospel during their 183rd annual meeting.

  A total of 883 messengers and 234 visitors from 391 churches gathered Oct. 23-24 at the Connection Point Church (formerly First Baptist) of Raytown, Mo., where they approved new governing documents, heard a report from the Missouri Baptist Foundation President for the first time in 15 years and welcomed special guests, including Missouri Gov.
